Last season, Mesquite won one game early and never got to enjoy the feeling again.

They refused to repeat that experience.

The Skeeters strung together their second victory in a row on Thursday, using a dominant fourth quarter to secure a 23-13 victory over Hurst L.D. Bell at E.H. Hanby Stadium.

Mesquite (2-1) and L.D. Bell had to endure a lengthy weather delay before getting started, as has become the norm in recent weeks.

When they did get going, it was the Blue Raiders who struck first, as Jacari Jackson broke free for a 59-yard touchdown run to take a 6-0 lead.

The Skeeters responded when Dylan McGill scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to edge ahead by a point.

L.D. Bell found the end zone again on a 14-yard run by Beni Kabongo, with the Skeeters managing a 47-yard field goal from Iram Perez to close to within 13-10 at halftime.

The score remained the same until the fourth quarter, when Mesquite took control. The Skeeters regained the lead when McGill hooked up with Ja’Darion Smith on a 34-yard scoring strike and they added some insurance late on a 3-yard touchdown run by Ladarius Turner to make it 23-13 and that is the way it would end.
